There is always something special about highest points, whether the highest point in a city like Austin a state , a state like Arizona or a country…It is just fulfilling to stand up there and take in the view.
While in Austin for a work conference, I managed to squeeze in an evening quick hike up to Mount Bonnell.
Mount Bonnell is considered the highest point in Austin, Texas (775 feet) and one of the most beautiful spots in the city to watch the sunrise or the sunset. It is a popular destination with spectacular views of the city, Lake Austin, lake houses and surrounding hills.
The Trailhead is only a few minutes drive from downtown Austin.
At the Trailhead you will be able to see a sign indicating the name of the park.
You should take the stairs up and enjoy the view in front of you. It takes less than 10 minutes to go up if not less.
Walk to the left to enjoy a view of Austin’s skyline.
Walk to the right for a more strategic view and a quieter and if lucky, less crowded spot to take in the view.
There are two to three picnic tables available for visitors so that you can sit down to eat, drink or maybe both.
I was blessed to enjoy this beautiful Texan sunset and I highly recommend making a quick stop if you can.
