New Mexico was one of the more barren states we’ve traveled to. Bisti De-Na-Zin wilderness showed us some of the North Western wilderness area, while our drive around the Sante Fe and down to White Sands National Monument showed us some more of the remote regions of New Mexico. You couldn’t help but to feel like you were so far away from the world while still in the center of the of the state. The mountain ranges on either side were still a wonderful site to behold.
Our stop in Albuquerque afforded us the opportunity to regroup with some family and check out the Albuquerque Balloon Festival which was quite impressive. The prices for balloon rides were pretty expensive and it seems like many of the balloons just went up and down.
Lastly, the Gila Wilderness provided us with some wonderful mountain views and several miles of isolated hiking. New Mexico is unique, sparse, but not without character.
